Waylon's Story

Waylon is 6 years old and was born at 23 weeks premature. He stayed at Maynard Children's Hospital for 298 days in NICU, PICU, special care and the general floor. In October 2016, he had eye surgery for ROP which he went septic from. He stayed on ECMO for 10 days which led to a stroke. From the stroke, he had to have a tracheostomy and g-tube placed. His trach has since been removed, but he continues to need the feeding tube. When his trach was removed, a small section of his airway collapsed so he underwent surgery to remove that part of the airway. He also now suffers from cerebral palsy, epilepsy, developmental delays, chronic lung disease, visual impairment, and his legs are different lengths which will require a leg lengthening surgery in the near future.  In total, Waylon has had around 30 surgeries since birth.
